Zingiber mioga - Japanese Ginger. An herbaceous, deciduous, shade-loving perennial, native to Japan & southern Korea. The young spring shoots are first picked in spring, and later the slightly-scented pink flower buds (produced on an insignificant stalk at the base of the plant) are eaten. The flower buds are used in mizo soup, tempura, pickled & as a spice. It's an attractive leafy plant and reappears year after year in partial shade. Ht: 1.2m tall. Very Hardy. Priced for: 9cm pot.
