Cichorium endivia L., Old Italian American cultivars, (var latifolia, scarola & crispum) Old Italian American cultivars & a relative to Chicory, having similar taste & culture. Leaf shapes range from triple-cut Frisée, Narrow, finely pinnate & dissected, often crisped or ruffled, for a frilly fluffy effect in a Salad (Endives), to large romaine-like wrappers, Broad, smooth, slightly ruffled leaf, for full-sized, well-hearted heads (Escaroles). Cold-tolerant, early spring sowing & summer harvest or late summer sow & autumn picking, can be cooked or used raw in salads (with varieties ‘Pancalieri’ & both 'Scarlet Giant & Fine maraichere’), Seed Count Approx - 400 avg 

 SOWING - Cold-tolerant, early spring sowing & summer harvest or late summer sow & autumn picking, For Spring sow, Start indoors 8 wks before the last frost or direct sow into the garden about 3 wks after the last frost in spring. Sow seed (6 mm) deep & full sun in rich compact soil. Can be spring or late summer-sown direct or transplanted like lettuce. (Does not need blanching), Prefers cool growing conditions.
