Phaseolus lunatus. Also called the Pope's Bean. Introduced to the USA from Peru in 1840, it is one of the largest Lima beans around, producing high yields right up to the first frost. The beans have an unusual maroon batik pattern over a creamy background and a rich chestnut flavour with a soft buttery texture. Delicious when freshly picked and steamed, or can be dried & stored for rich, wintery stews. Ht to 200cm. Seed count approx 10.
