Blazing Purple-Red Magenta - Beta Vulgaris , Swiss chard varieties were already being cultivated as a leaf vegetable in Greece circa 400 B.C.and are also known as stem chard & leaf beet. This variety is proof positive that your veggie patch can be as gorgeous as it is nutritious with its slim, blazing purple-red magenta coloured stalks that are tender & narrow. The attractive medium dark jade coloured foliage is nearly flat when harvested at 2-3" as a baby green and slightly savoyed at maturity. This heat tolerant variety will also tolerate light frost.
