Hardy Red Celtuse - (Asparagus Lettuce) , (Circa 1885) Lactuca sativa var. angustana - Heirloom Butterhead predating 1885 from city of Krakow, with an open head of elongate, slightly savoyed, wavy lime-green leaves stamped with deep red purple to lavender. Vilmorin (1885) called it Red Celtuce, or Asparagus Lettuce, implying its natural to first make a large loose head, then puts up pink bolting sweet edible seed stalks & its buttery flavour doesn’t give way to bitterness even after bolting.
