(Lagenaria siceraria) – Aka: cucuzze or gagootza. It isactually a gourd (has white flowers rather than yellow like squash) but is grown & eaten as a Courgette. Fruit can grow up to three feet long, but tastes best when picked young, no more than 12 inches. Vigorous grower with long vines so leave plenty of room, also does well on a pergola hanging or fine on the ground. As with courgettes, this is a hot weather crop, so don't plant before the soil has warmed or start under protection before planting out. As seeds are so hard, germination can take 4 to 6 wks, so be patient.. (Scarify To speed germination by soaking them for 24 hours to soften coat), , Seed Count Approx - 14 avg,..........
