Lathyrus odoratus, (Circa 1975) Fragrant - Long-stemmed & large-flowered - an excellent large, slightly ruffled deep purple/ darkest blue mauve bred by Bill Laidlaw and introduced by Unwin's in 1974. Among the top ten exhibition sweet peas in the 1990s, it won the National Sweet Pea Society Clay Cup for the best vase in the National Show in 1986. Still regarded as the best exhibition sweet pea of its colour, it is strongly scented and ideal for cutting and for adding colour in the garden. Ht: 5 to 6 ft, Treat as an Annual, Seed Count Approx - 13 avg SOWING - Plant late autumn or early spring in pots & provide winter protection (Cold greenhouse - not heat), plant out in early spring after frosts for best blooms. Plant each seed in starter pot, water once & only again after shoot appears, then water & feed regularly thereafter. Use a good quality compost and plant them about 1cm deep, cover with compost and water them well
