Suaeda maritima L, Annual, Salad / Herb-like Coastal Herbaceous, (Latin: Suaeda means Black Salt) (Also Called Sea Blite, Seepweed) Annual, Salad herb-like plant, native to coastal regions & happy in salty soils so the flavour is very salty. Related to Samphire & Goosefoot family, growing to 1ft., Small Green flowers Jul to Oct, rich red stems & foliage during autumn (Leaf is Red when salt-saturated), seeds ripen from Aug. Wind pollinated & self-fertile. Young fernlike leaves eaten raw, steamed, stir-fried or blanched & is a great complement to seafood or a nice addition to salad? Young shoots are pickled in vinegar & eaten on its own, seeds eaten raw or boiled.  The plant is self-fertile. Suitable for: light (sandy) & medium (loamy) soils. Suitable pH: neutral & basic (mildly alkaline) soils & can grow in very alkaline & saline soils. It cannot grow in the shade. It prefers moist soil. The plant can tolerate maritime exposure., Seed Count Approx - 400+ avg
