Beta vulgaris, (Circa 17th C) Deep Red - Cut & Come Again - This old variety from Britain, known principally for its beautiful 'deep blood red'. Beet leaf top & sweet spinach-like flavour it gives to salads, thus this useful crop can be used at any stage of growth, harvest the leaves for baby leaf, in mixed salads or use steamed like spinach, or the roots can be left to grow like any other beetroot. During the winter, leaves turn an intense shiny burgundy colour. CUT & COME AGAIN leaves all through the year, Or grow as an ornamental in a perennial garden for impact. Each beet seed produces 2 to 6 plants., Seed Count Approx - 50 to 60 avg SOWING - You eat the leaf when small as a salad leaf, Sow successive crops all season, starting 2-4 weeks before the last frost in spring & continuing until a month before the first frost in fall. Sow where the plants will grow, 1/2 in deep, 4-6 in apart, in full sun on neutral soil. Thin as needed
