Rheum palmatum (hybridum), Dual Purpose Culinary Outdoor or Forcing, Introduced in 1837 by Joseph Myatt. The latest to put up stems in the spring. Dual-purpose variety outdoors &Late forcing variety, producing large sticks of good flavour, appears very striking when blooming with its strong stems that develop pink speckling on a light green stalk with the pink colour being more intense at the bottom of the stalk, fading to a solid green near the top. SOWING - Seeds are encased in paper-like shells. Soak for a few hours before planting in a suitable Loam based mix, under protection (greenhouse) early spring. Seeds germinate quickly. Transplant out after frosts, avoiding the direct sun for the first few days.
