Beta Vulgaris, (Circa 1920's USA) - The hardiest, 60 days. Introduced in the USA in 1924 by W. Atlee Burpee,  Succulent Pure White celery-like stalks support large, dark green, savoyed, fleshy leaves and broad white ribs. The delicate 8-10 in stalks are wonderfully tender & juicy &  this is a happy alternative for spinach. It provides more vitamins & minerals than almost any other green, yet it will grow almost anywhere & tolerate neglect right through the year (even picking in winter), White is the hardiest of all colours, Grows best in full sun, tolerates partial shade, Treat as a Biennial, Seed Count Approx - 50 avg 

  SOWING - Cut and come again - (Sow April to Sept) A sowing in late spring will give a crop thru to the following spring, Cut off the outer leaves 1 1/2 ins above the ground when they are young & tender (about 6 ins long). Be careful not to damage the terminal bud
