Allium cepa, Washington Sweet (Cira 1900's USA), No bite, No tears, just exceptional Sweetness, originally from the Island of Corsica, off the West Coast of Italy, So impressive was the onion’s winter hardiness & unique crisp sweetness, that it was taken to Washington state USA & named after the valley where planted. Its sweetness comes from its low sulphur content, half that of an ordinary yellow onion. SOWING - planted an inch deep about four inches apart in rows 12 to 15 inches apart. Onions from seed started indoors in late February can be planted in April when they are about the size of a pencil lead. It will take about two weeks for the green shoots to appear and start growing. Will grow in any fertile, well-drained soil, Harvest July onwards,
