Beta vulgaris subsp. Maritima. The wild ancestor to beetroot, leaf beet, perpetual spinach and Swiss chard. Its thick, pointed leaves and reddy stems are glossy with wavy marginshave a pleasant texture and taste when served raw or cooked in any recipe that calls for cooked spinach, hence its common name of Wild Spinach. Thrives along shores and estuaries and flowers throughout the summer. Able to tolerate high levels of salt or just as happy in garden soils. Hardy perennial. Sent in a 1 litre pot.
