Szechuan Pepper, Zanthoxylum armatum var. subtrifoliatum

Winged Prickly Ash. A spiny deciduous shrub or small tree growing to 3.5 metres can be pruned. Can be found growing in a wide range of habitats in China, Japan, India, and throughout Eastern Asia. The leaves and fruits are used as a condiment, either fresh or dried. Also used as an ingredient in Chinese Five Spice powder. Tolerates sun or shade, hardy and easy. Supplied in a 3-litre pot
