Japanese sansho pepper - A hardy deciduous, spineless shrub with yellow-green flowers in early summer, followed by scarlet peppercorns in early autumn. In Japan, the green leaves are used in soups and salads and are also good for making pesto, and it is one of the seven main ingredients of the blended spice called shichimi.
