Melissa officinalis. A 2000 year old herb with a delicate lemon flavour and a wide culinary potential. This is the variegated variety, with wrinkled green and gold leaves. Grows freely in any soil. The white flowers are attractive to bees, particularly honeybees, bumblebees and common carder beees. Hardy perennial. Priced for a 1 litre pot
Use: Fresh leaves make an attractive garnish, and chopped leaves will add zest to sweet or tangy dishes. Lemon balm pesto is delicious too
