Brassica oleracea. This hardy perennial kale was mentioned by Charles Darwin, through his interest in breeding, in 1860. It originated from a cross between kale and brussel sprouts, and was then crossed with purple sprouting broccoli. The leaves have an unusual green/purple colour, and provide a continuous supply of tasty leaves throughout the winter. As a bonus, a second crop of tasty side shoots are produced in early spring. Priced for three young plants in 7 cm pots.
