Ribes uva-crispa - Late season, virtually thornless variety with excellent mildew resistance. Sweet, burgundy-red, pear-shaped fruits in late July. Bred in Canada so very hardy and one of the best dessert varieties. Plant 1.5 metres apart. Pruning is usually done in the early autumn, Cut the leaders back by half to two thirds to an upward-facing bud. Try to form an open centred bush to encourage air circulation and prevent mildew.
