Prunus dulcis. Despite only growing a few centimetres per year this attractive dwarf, grafted almond tree still produces a good crop of nuts. Ideal in a pot on a balcony or patio, or it can be planted out in a small garden. Self-pollinating, but may benefit from hand-pollination (by brush). Pruning is hardly needed; just feed once a year with a good quality fertiliser. Harvest September to October. Full sun is best. Use green as a salted summer snack, or leave to mature and eat as sweet almonds in autumn. Priced for a 4 litre pot
