Juglans regia. A more compact walnut variety, and, being self-fertile, a good cropper, producing large, thin-shelled nuts of excellent quality and a unique creamy flavour. They can be harvested green and pickled or left until fully ripe in the autumn to be dried out and stored. It will begin to produce nuts after about four years. Pick in September, store until December
Plant in full sun or light shade, in a sheltered position with no frost pockets. Will tolerate many soil types but is happiest in light, sandy, well-drained soils. Priced for: a 2 year tree
