Corylus avellana. Of Italian origin, particularly widespread in Lazio, near Rome, this variety is widely used for the production of hazelnuts. It is an early and very productive, bearing nuts of very good quality.
Catkins and flowers are borne in February/March, followed in August/September by large round hazelnuts that have a crunchy intense flavour, and a fine aroma. Eat fresh or dried. Full sun or partial shade. Self-fertile, but another hazel nearby will improve production. Hardy down to at least minus 20C. Height and spread 5 - 7 metres. Priced for: a 5 litre pot
