Ficus carica - A classic French cultivar, known to have been grown in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles in Louis XIV's time. A vigorous, self-fertile variety, famous for producing up to two crops of delicious, sweet figs per year. The fruits are large and pear-shaped with a bronze/gold skin and juicy pinky-red flesh. One of the hardier and wet-tolerant figs, being tolerant of temperatures down to around -15C. Typically reaches up to 4 metres in height and spread over 10 to 20 years, but responds well to pruning to keep it manageable in the ground or in a large pot. A sunny spot is best for maximum fruit production. Priced for a 2 litre pot
