The barrel-shaped head is about 10 in tall & its tender sweet taste is particularly popular in northern China. Keep seedlings well-watered during warm, dry spells.  SOWING - Should be sown thinly in trays or pots under cover late April or early May or they can be sown directly to prepared outdoor seedbeds between June & Aug. Sow the seeds about 1cm deep& keep the soil or compost damp. When seedlings are about 3cm-4cm high, transplant them into individual 9cm pots or modular trays. Outdoor seedlings can be thinned to 30cm apart for med size plants or 45cm apart if larger plants are required
