RARE Heirloom Brinjal - edible & Ornamental, Heirloom - Solanum melongena Or Solanum aethiopicum as its both edible & ornamental, This Heirloom Annual hails from sub-Saharan Africa & is called Scarlet or African eggplant, It produces a compact, Indeterminate low-growing shrub 3 to 4 ft in height & spread & will bloom & set small bunches of fruit thru the season. Just 1 in wide & 3 in long & the fruit is strongly flavored but not in the least bit bitter. These Stunning striped fruits turn from two-tone green to two-tone orange with black stripes as they ripen.. Best in a greenhouse. Also known as Egg Plant., Seed Count Approx - 30 to 35 avg

 SOWING - These grow best in a greenhouse or in a sheltered sunny spot outside. Soak your seeds in water for up to 24 hours, then sow seeds indoors 8 to 10 wks before the last frost in a propagator or March onward if you don’t have one, Sow in pots. Harden off slowly as they are sensitive to transport shock, then plant in final growing spot, pick when skin is taut and glossy, Feed in the same way as tomatoes

Amazing producer, tasty fruits, but....

These are best picked when full sized but not yet turning color for cooking. As they absolutely will be bitter once ripening has begun. As an ornamental they are quite delightful, with their heavy loads of fruit that range from creamy white, yellow and orread more
