These are best picked when full sized but not yet turning color for cooking. As they absolutely will be bitter once ripening has begun. As an ornamental they are quite delightful, with their heavy loads of fruit that range from creamy white, yellow and orange, all with stunning green striping, until becoming a solid brick red.
