Peucedanum japonicum, Culinary & Medicinal Herb native to East Asia, Perennial herb propagated by seed or cuttings which is a culinary & medicinal herb native to East Asian & Japaneese coastal areas & is also known as Bangpung (Korean) or Chyou-mei-gusa (Japan). The plant has an very attractive architectural appearance with large, feathery, finely divided leaves & produces umbels of small, white flowers in the summer, & commonly used as an ornamental plant in gardens & as a source of food for livestock. The leaves & stems are used as a cooked vegetable in Korea, Japan, & China, often served as a "namul" side dish. Studies have suggested it may have anti-inflammatory & antioxidant properties. SOWING - Can grow up to 1 meter & thrives in sun or part shade in moist soil. Propagated by sowing directly outdoors or in pots from March to June in well-drained, fertile soil, ideally in a sunny spot. Seeds covered lightly with compost & maintain a temperature 15 to 20 C for germination. Germination takes 7–14 days, seedlings should be spaced 25cm apart.
