Tropaeolum tuberosum - A perennial plant from Peru, grown there as early as 5,500 BC & still a major food source. It is peppery in flavour when raw as it contains mustard oils, but this quality softens when cooked. Very versatile & been used for hundreds of years in traditional medicine. Has an extraordinarily high resistance to insect, nematode, & bacterial pests. In Colombia, it is planted as a companion crop to repel pests in potato fields. Treat as you would a potato (not hardy) Fine in containers. Priced for: one tuber in a 9 cm pot

Use: Use the flowers and leaves in salads. Cook as other root vegetables.
