A perennial, rhizomatous vigorous Asian species of the sunflower family, found in a variety of habitats including valleys, roadsides and riverbanks. Small, buff-coloured flowers are borne from July to November. Will grow to 1.2 metres.
Use: The leaves and young seedling can be eaten raw or cooked. In Japan the leaves are used to flavour rice dumplings called kusa mochi
