Pyrus communis. Rootstock: Quince C (dwarfing - eventual height up to 2.5 metres). Dessert variety introduced by Thomas Rivers in 1894. Most widely grown pear in Britain. Can be cropped and stored before ripe and is often sold under-ripe, but when ripe it has an excellent flavour. Pick at the end of September, store until November. Self-fertile. Priced for a maiden bush
