Phaseolus vulgaris. C.1868. This highly ornamental round-podded climber is a very heavy producer of rich purple pods. Stems and flowers are purple & the leaves have a purple tinge. It is distinguished because it retains its colour if dried, but as with all purple French beans it turns green when cooked. Use young as fresh beans or leave pods to mature and use as dried (haricot) beans. Excellent flavour. 65-70 days to maturity. Height 200cm Seed count approx - 50.
