Scabiosa caucasica, (circa 1880) ' Blue' for the Bees - Old & well known perennial Scabious with large, rich lavender-blue flowers, introduced into Britain in 1803 to enrich our borders, delight the bees & butterflies & adorn our vases. Bred by Arthur John Golding in around 1887, Perfecta is still among the largest & deepest shades of blue available. The flat pincushion flowers arise on strong stems from compact, low growing neat & compact foliage, the shades are excellent & the masses of flowers are beyond belief. HT: 2-3 ft. Hardy perennial, Great Cut or Dried, Seed Count Approx - 19 to 20 avg 

  SOWING - Scabiosa blooms will grow at a moderate pace, reaching maturity in 90 to 100 days. Scabiosa is quite tolerant of cold weather  ... You can sow seeds outdoors in early autumn raking into the soil for germination in the Spring or Best to Sow scabiosa seeds indoors in early spring and set seedlings out two weeks before your last spring frost is expected. Transplant carefully, without disturbing the roots. Sunny spot.
