Knautia arvensis, Gypsy Rose or Blue Button - Perennial, Also called: Gypsy Rose, Blue Button & Lady’s Pincushion –A Tall, native perennial herb of grassland on well-drained, especially basic soils & heads of pale lilac to light blue flowers with pink anthers from June to October. Found in old meadows, rough pasture, hedgerows, verges & grassy waste ground. When in flower it attracts large numbers of bees, butterflies, moths & hoverflies. Drought-resistant, Sow autumn or spring. It overwinters as a rosette of dark green leaves Ht: 2 to 3 ft (Great Cut Flower), Seed Count Approx - 30 avg SOWING - Sow spring or late summer under protection. When large enough to handle, prick out individually & plant out (up till late Sept). If you have enough seed it would be worthwhile trying a sowing in situ outdoors in Mid spring.
