Squash , Hungarian Blue (Crown Prince Type Heirloom)

Giromanti, Crown Prince Type, A rare European heirloom, this is for those that want a Heirloom ‘Crown Prince’ squat jack o' lantern type, but not an F1 hybrid (as Crown Prince is)  This is a rare European heirloom of distinguished pedigree, first discovered in Budapest by agriculturist Philippe Desbrosses, where it bore the venerable name Nagydobosy sütőtök. Later christened ‘Hungarian Blue’ for its remarkable pale blue grey to turquoise rind, smooth as polished stone, it presents a striking contrast to its rich orange yellow flesh within. Sweet, dense, & delightfully versatile, it excels in both sweet & savoury dishes. Medium fruits of around 6 kg grow upon vigorous trailing vines, offering generous yields & admirable keeping quality for the autumn larder.., Seed Count Approx - 6 avg 

  SOWING - Squash will not germinate in cold soil & needs a warm spot, well-drained & fertile soil with plenty of composted organic matter to conserve moisture;. Planting should be delayed until soil has warmed (can be started in greenhouse mid March onward, plant out end Mayish),  Sow directly insitu after threat of frost has passed. Sow one inch deep in hills or rows spaced 24 to 36 in apart , Harvest just before frosts, when the stems dry & turn brown.
