Asparagus officinalis, Exceptional Cold-Hardiness and Heat Tolerance, Introduced in the USA in the early 1900's, Asparagus 'Mary Washington' is a highly regarded, heirloom variety known for its exceptional cold-hardiness and heat tolerance. Renowned for its high yields and rust resistance, this cultivar produces thick, mid to dark green spears with a purple flush at the tips, which can be harvested from mid-spring to early summer. These spears are suitable for both fresh consumption and freezing. This variety is often referred to as the "Matriarch" of the asparagus world due to its low maintenance requirements and significant contribution to cultivation. Asparagus plants should be harvested in late Spring. Additionally, this variety is self-pollinating. It grows 36-48 inches tall, Seed Count Approx - 30 to 35 avg 

  SOWING - Sow seeds in Jan/Feb into modules under cover with protection after a 24 hour soak. Transplant out in its permanent position late April or early May and  benefitting from moist sandy and clay loam soils enriched with compost..  Otherwise sow seeds into seedbeds outdoors Mid Spring. ( 2/3 years to eating), Once established will last for years & years, keep weed free.
