Zingiber mioga - Japanese Ginger. A deciduous, shade-loving perennial, native to Japan & southern Korea. Variety 'Crug Zing' produces deep yellow flower buds, opening into lilac-pink flowers. The young spring shoots are picked first in spring (leaving enough for the plant to continue growing), and later the slightly-scented pink flower buds, produced at the base of the plant, are eaten. It's an attractive leafy plant and quite happy in the shade. Height: 1.2m tall. Very hardy. Priced for: 1 litre pot.
Use: The flower buds are used in miso soup, tempura, pickled and as a spice.
Please Note - During the winter months (typically from November to March), this plant will be supplied in a dormant state, ie; there will be no visible growth above soil level
