Cynara scolymus, Rustic, traditional Large French Heirloom, Also known as 'cat's head', named after a French City and this is known to have the largest hearts of any artichoke. A perennial vegetable with large flowerheads which are deep green faintly tinged with purple & with solid hearts. Plants are easy to grow, lasting many years. Its silver-green foliage & large flower heads make it an interesting plant when grown in the ornamental garden. The fleshy base of the petals & the meaty heart is the most edible parts. Buds are usually cut when 6 -10cm in dia. Vigorous & prolific, HEIGHT up to 1.8m. A noble plant, both for foliage & flowers & worthy of a place in any border, Seed Count Approx - 10 avg
SOWING - Seeds: Sow under glass, February-March. A transplant from late April. Can also be sown on an outside seedbed from March to June. Doesn’t mind salty air, fertilize with a seaweed extract, Plant it where it will stay, Hardy Perennial
