Cynara scolymus, a Rustic, traditional Large French Heirloom, Also known as 'cat's head', it's actually named after a French City. This is known to have the largest hearts of any artichoke, a perennial vegetable with large flowerheads which are deep green faintly tinged with purple & with solid hearts. Plants are easy to grow, lasting many years. Its silver-green foliage & large flower heads make it an interesting plant when grown in the ornamental garden. The fleshy base of the petals & the meaty heart is the most edible parts. Buds are usually cut when 6 -10cm in dia. Vigorous & prolific, HEIGHT up to 1.8m.
