Zea mays, (Circa 1902 USA) Aka: Sweet Golden Sunset, Introduced by Burpees USA in 1902, from seed produced by a Massachusetts (USA) gardener. Nice yellow early to midseason strain, known for its flavourful ears, & its ability to tolerate poor growing conditions, It's loaded with sweet, plump, golden kernels selected for their robust, sweet (but not cloyingly sweet) flavour & tenderness. Has good vigour, consistent production & an excellent balance. Matures 85 days, the plants, as its name indicates, are short, only growing to about 5 ft. SOWING - Early sowing indoors is best in early spring Late Feb to May, indoor or under cloches in pots with good protection, A warm windowsill is best, Sow 1.5cm deep one in each pot. Keep warm & water lightly, DO NOT OVER-WATER until planting out, Germination approx 7-21 days. Plant out in block formation May-July, into well-cultivated, fertile soil, when frosts are over. Harvest Sept to Oct just as tassels start to show.
