Cucumis melo, Sweet and Aromatic Charentais Type, (F1) A mini version of the 'Charentais' melon so loved by the French. Originating in the Poitou-Charentes region around 1920, Charentais is considered the best melon ever developed because of its high sugar content, smooth texture, and ambrosial fragrance. Perfect for two servings, the small round melons weigh just 400g, and each fruit is perfect when cut in two for individual servings. Grayish Pale in colour with slightly deep green ribs, the melons have rich salmon-orange flesh, sweet and aromatic - wonderful as a fruity dessert., Seed Count Approx - 24 avg SOWING - Sow two seeds per pot of seed compost in a 9cm pot. After germination, remove the weaker of the two seedlings and keep the compost moist but not too wet. Plant out in late spring to early summer in full sun in well-drained soil. Cantaloupe plants need about 85 days to mature but don't rush planting. Sow seeds only when temperatures reliably stay above 50 to 60 degrees F. As the plants establish, keep tying the long main stem to plant support.
